Color Progression on Gargoyle Geckos!
Anyone can produce a red gargoyle gecko. The challenge is producing a red gargoyle gecko that keeps that color for 10+ years.
Most people have seen the dramatic color change that red gargoyle geckos can go through but what separates an average red from an elite one is what happens over time.
For over a decade, we’ve worked to refine and stabilize our reds so they aren’t simply flashy as juveniles, but instead develop into adults that retain a deep, vibrant red coloration through maturity and continued breeding. That long-term color retention is the defining trait of the Deadpool line, and the standard we’ve held ourselves to across generations of selective breeding.
After several generations of careful outcrossing and selection for coverage, intensity, and lasting pigment, we’re finally reaching the point we’ve been working toward: animals that don’t just show red… they keep it into old age.
This past year, the Tampax babies genuinely blew me away. While many projects in the hobby have chased higher pattern and coverage, our focus has been building something rarer, high coverage paired with a red that doesn’t fade.
Enjoy these examples of the color progression on 3 different Tampax babies (Deadpool great-grandkids), showing exactly what we mean by lasting red..
These are photos of the babies the day they hatched all the way to 6 months of age.
